Log Cabin Quilt Block

Log Cabin Quilt BlockThere are so many different types of quilt blocks out there, but one of the classics is a log cabin block.  There are different variations to this block which is why it's so cool and has stayed with us for so long.  I also love it because, your quilt can have a variety of different looks depending on how you lay your blocks during the quilt top assembly.  Our log cabin quilt block is simple enough that those are who are just get into quilting can totally follow along and make one.

This demonstration is for the assembly of an individual block.  Don't forget to print out our download above for a block layout and also for the fabric amount needed for each color.  If you follow our amount, it's enough for a full size quilt top at 87"X101.5", which may even work for a queen.  You should make 42 individual blocks and arrange them in 6 blocks X 7 blocks for your quilt top.   If you need help with the rest of the quilt assembly, after putting your quilt top together, check out our Basic Block Quilt tutorial.  You can start watching at this point, 10m 15s.

Oh my … the Log Cabin pattern sounds so easy after watching the video. My brother asked me to make him a quilt (I’ve never made one) and I’m so excited to get started on this project.

ABSOLUTELY one of the best teaching videos I’ve ever watched! Log Cabin is my very favorite pattern and it’s what I used when I TAUGHT MYSELF FROM BOOKS to make quilts. I am disabled and directionality is ONE of my issues.
    THIS WAS SO FUN!
    Thanks so very much.
