Some may consider the ruffle to be a dated embellishment, but it's actually still used quite a lot in garment sewing, especially in kid clothes and it's fairly easy to create. A gathered ruffle is created from nothing more than pulled basting stitches but it gives it an amazing look and you can control how much ruffling there is depending on how long you make the ruffle. So it can be a slightly wavy ruffle or a densely packed ruffle. This tutorial covers how to determine how big your fabric strip should be for creating the ruffle and basic assembly. Plus I go over variations to show you how it can be used in different situations. Don't discount the ruffle as old fashion because it's here to stay.
