Sometimes you want to make the simple projects that don't need fancy fasteners. The drawstring is a basic fastener that can be done with either cording or by making your own tie with fabric. You don't need to buy any other supplies. Of course, it works best when you want to gather the top of a project like a bag or purse. The drawstring is put through the casing and by pulling the fabric along the drawstring, it cinches the top closed. Tying the drawstring in a bow will keep it closed. You create the casing the same as you would most other types, but there's an opening at one of the seams where the drawstring comes out of. This is the easiest way to pull off the drawstring casing but it works great.
