Coats & Clark gave us some thread from their new line, Eloflex. This is a stretchable thread and we have an extra set for one lucky person. This thread is different than traditional elastic thread in that it looks similar to regular thread and you can thread it in the top and bobbin area of your machine, just treat it like normal thread. If you pull on it, it does have a slight stretch so you can sew your knit seams with a straight stitch instead of a zigzag stitch. I have been a sewer since I was 10 and love to sew with knits for my granddaughters. This thread looks to have great promise, especially for children’s clothing.
Stretchable thread?! How wonderful, I can’t wait to try it! This would be perfect for the next few projects that I have lined up. I have a bunch of 4 way stretch to make yoga pants, as well as tank tops and a few other knit projects.
I’d love to use it for anything. It’d be great to try with a top or even some casual pants 🙂
I learned the hard way that there was elastic thread. I ruined my daughter’s leggings trying to hem them with regular thread. She couldn’t even get her foot through the hole!
I would use it on a bathing suit and beach coverup.

Sewing with knit fabrics has always been my first love. I learned to sew on knits before I learned to sew on woven fabrics back in the late 70s when sewing with knits was the new craze! I would love to see knits take a higher priority again. I am looking forwarding to sewing with Eloflex thread on some of my knit projects in the near future.
