Buttonholes

Why when i try to make a button hole the machine starts backward first then makes bar code then comes forward. I mark my fabric for buttonhole and put needle at top of marking and machine goes backward. Where should i put needle at the bottom of marking.

I think it’s fairly common for machines to start the buttonhole going backwards. When I’m starting, I put the needle down at one end so the buttonhole mark falls behind the needle, under the presser foot. Also, for mine, I start just left of my center bar line, so, hopefully, the center line ends up inside the buttonhole. I used to practice on scraps of fabric until I felt I had the hang of it. good luck!
