I am starting on a jumpsuit. The pattern is a button up, but I would like to change that to an exposed zipper instead. Should I just follow the pattern and insert zipper, or do I have to alter the pattern to accommodate the zipper. thanks to anyone that can help me with this.

You can definitely do this! With buttons, patterns add fabric in order to overlap the areas. For a exposed zipper there’s usually very little if anything added because it’s mostly just put in the seam. Maybe do a quick muslin of one small part to see how much is devoted for doing a button and then you can trim or fold the pattern area for the zipper. I’m afraid if you just put in a zipper without adjusting the pattern, the jumper might not be as fitted. good luck!

Thanks so much for the response. I’ll try this and let you know how it comes out. Will be working on this next week. Have a great week.
