When push comes to shove, I will admit to being a pants girl. It's fun to wear skirts and pretty dresses, but I feel the most comfortable in pants. I just love wearing pants and when I get a pair of awesome pants that fit me really well, then I am the happiest girl in the world.
Luckily, I know how to make my own pants pattern that uses my own measurements so that it's totally customized to me. And luckily for you, I'm here to show you how you can do it too. It seems intimidating, but it's not as hard you'd think. Like our basic skirt pattern, there is a bit of math involved and it's a little more complicating, so I don't recommend this tutorial for beginners. But when you're ready, I'll be with you every step of the way. You just have to tell yourself that you refuse to be intimidated and you can do it.
The best part is that once you get your block made, usually you just have to make a few tweaks to perfect it and then once it's perfect, you'll go back to it time and time again. From there you can create your pattern for the basic pants pattern (which are high waisted, pleated pants) or do some adjustments and create a different style of pants. That's what's so nice, because each time you do a different style, you know that it's still going to fit because you've done all the heavy lifting on creating your block.
If you don't know how to assemble your pieces after you cut them out, don't worry, because we will have a tutorial demonstrating this. Soon, you will be like me and have several stylish versions of these pants in all different colors.
do you mean front and back are not the same length? (that’s ok, they shouldn’t be) Or that when you add the front and back together, they don’t equal the measured crotch length you got from your body measurements? If you’ve double checked everything and can’t figure it out, it’s ok to just move forward. You’ll see in the pants assembly tutorial, I make a muslin and my crotch length ends up being a little long, and I end up adjusting my pattern until I get a fit that I like. That’s why we do a muslin because even if we think we do everything perfectly, you’ll find that it doesn’t always end up perfect the first time around. Don’t give up! 🙂

Another question when I add the 2 crotch cuvres front and back that I have drawn the dont equal. 1″ off, I have gone back and rechecked everything is ok. any sugestions?

I like to wear elastic waist pants. Do I still need the darts? Is there a tutorial for that style pants?
