A new week and a new tutorial! As promised, this week we have the exciting conclusion to our cliffhanger from last week's Basic Skirt Pattern tutorial. I know everyone was on pins and needles, wondering if the pattern pieces would ever find fabric again? Did the pencil skirt ever realize the basic skirt was in fact its mother? And the most pressing question, would the basic skirt ever get made? The passion! The drama! The anticlimactic conclusion because the answer is obviously yes, of course. Spoiler alert! This week's tutorial is the Basic Skirt Assembly, so we show you all the ins and outs of making that fabulous basic skirt that comes from last week's pattern creation. If you haven't checked out that tutorial yet, please do so before doing Basic Skirt Assembly. (Both videos are part of our premium membership, which you can find more information here.)
This skirt has darts and a zipper in the back. Also, the skirt is high-waisted so the top of the skirt rests at your natural waistline. I actually really like this, because it can give your style a vintage look. I feel like it also brings out my curves so even though it's basic, it can be very flattering. You can also add trim to the bottom and really have fun being creative with it. Hope you have fun making it!
You can either make your darts a little bigger or sew in the side seams a little more. Don’t forget to make your waistband a little smaller as well. good luck!
hmmm….it could be because you just overlapped your waistband too much. Other than that, I don’t know why the zipper wouldn’t lie flat. Here’s a more recent tutorial I did that shows putting in a zipper. The technique varies a little but it has the same result and I think much easier to see what’s going on. https://www.professorpincushion.com/professorpincushion/skirt-zipper/
What i need to understand you say it good to make a muslim before, I did’t. and my skirt turn out a little big at the waist .So my question is if i had made a muslim i would had to ajust it by adding my dart a liitle bigger so then i would had to add those extra measure in the the band as well right?
HI, Whenever i put in the band, what cause the zipper to twist when setting the over lap ….my zipper never seem to set smoothly on top of the skirt i could not see that part too much cause your skirt it dark color. I just need to see more clearly after u turn the band on the ends how it set near the top of the zipper . I did measure it 1/2 inch down from the egde of the skirt before sewed in the skirt band. Hpe u understand my question.
