When I think of the word "couching", I can't help but think of something that just lays around. Conveniently, that kind of describes the type of stitch shown in this tutorial. With couching you have one main or lead thread that lays on top of your fabric, while the working (second) thread, works its way over it to hold it into place. This type of stitch is decorative and can be used to outline something, or to create decorative looks or borders. It's used in embroidery but can be added to garments for embellishment as well.
