The cross stitch is a decorative hand sewing stitch that is commonly used in embroidery projects.  Its name describes it perfectly.  The stitches cross each other to form an "x."  This can be done individually or many of them together can easily form into a beautiful pattern.  It's a bit of an old fashion stitch but it's simplicity makes it never out of style.
