I love doing different decorative stitches. It really gives you a unique way to embellish your projects and, even if you find them simple, it always adds a layer of complexity to your work. I love the look of the feather stitch. To me it's looks less like feathers and more like delicate tree branches but I think it's absolutely amazing. In this tutorial, I show you how to do a hand feather stitch that really breaks it down and make it simple to pick up right away. I do two different variations: feather stitch and double feather stitch. Once you get the hang of it, you can even expand it and do a triple feather stitch, if you wish. It is possible to do a similar stitch on your sewing machine if your machine offers this as a decorative stitch option. But even if your machine can do a feather stitch, I wouldn't discount the hand feather stitch because I think hand stitches stand out even more, since you can do bigger versions of them in thick embroidery thread. You'll not only find this stitch in embroidery, but also they're common on crazy quilts. Try something new and incorporate the feather stitch into one of your projects.
