If you plan on doing a lot of apparel sewing, one seam that you should learn how to create is the flat-felled seam.  Even if you've never heard of this type of seam before, chances are you've see it several times. The most common place to find these seams are in you of your jeans or trousers. Flat-felled seams are great for areas that tend to have more stress than normal.  They're a more durable seam and using stronger thread will make them last longer.  This is why they're commonly used in many of the seams seen in a pair of jeans.
