Have you ever looked at a quilt with either really small pieces or unusual shapes and wonder how they did that? Is someone having to cut all these exact and weird pieces for their quilt top? The answer may actually be the quilter used foundation paper piecing, also known as English paper piecing. If you've only tried traditional quilting techniques, you should consider trying this. Not only is it a great stash buster for those annoying scraps but you can create some really beautiful designs. Like its name suggests, this quilting technique uses paper in order to help create the design so you'll have a pattern that you will sew directly on. It takes a little while to get used to this type of quilting and some find it more complicating, but we've broken down each step to make it as easy as pie for beginners.
