The nice thing about lace fabric is that many of them have a beautiful scalloped border instead of the typical selvage. This border gives you another hem option, using it as a self hem, instead of doing a traditional hem. Not only does this make a beautiful hemline to your garments, but then you don't have to worry about seeing layers of lace since this fabric is pretty transparent. The easiest way to achieve this look is to lay the hemline of your pattern along the scalloped edge. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work out, either because you don't enough fabric to lay out all your pieces like this, or because of the shape of the pattern piece. Unless the edge of the hemline is perfectly straight, it doesn't always work out but this doesn't mean that you still can't get the look. This tutorial shows you how you can still utilize the lacy scalloped border, regardless of the shape of your hemline for a lovely, simple look.
