Many times I come across beginner sewers who believe that it'll take some time before they'll be able to tackle a project that's cool, fun, and something they'll actually want to wear. Not to knock pajama bottoms and tote bags, but it's understandable if a lot of sewers have bigger and better visions on what they want to accomplish with their new sewing skills. To those people, let me introduce you to McCall's 6754. This dress rocks (hence the name) and it's an easy dress that can be completed by a beginner. Yes, you can do this! And if you're still unsure, don't worry, we have a full length tutorial here to show you exactly how it's done.
The dress is simple but still has a lovely style. It's made with a knit lace and a tricot lining. Since both the lace and lining are stretchy, there are no fasteners so this dress is simply a pullover. The bodice is body hugging with a scooped neckline and the skirt is circular so there's enough fullness for twirling. We loved taking this dress and rocking it out, but the style is versatile that you can really take it any direction.

I love how there’s a option to make a peplum blouse in this pattern. I would like to make this and make a longer maxi dress version.
I think I would make the dress just a little bit longer, but otherwise use the pattern as is. It seems like the perfect beginner’s pattern!
with a 24-year-old daughter who just moved to san diego for school, this would be the perfect unfussy dress for her. and yet it could be upgraded for a fancy dinner….. excellent pattern!
Thank you for the reply. Love all your videos, very thankful for them.
I’m planning on making this great dress for summer. I’m going to make it just a touch longer though.
Love this dress! Still a beginner sewer so this looks like a perfect starter project. 🙂
I would definitely like to try out this dress! I’ve sewn all sorts of things, but I actually have never used a commercial pattern before!

Very cute summer dress that I am sure I could make. Now to find they right material, which is the best part to me.
