Necklines in dresses can come in many different styles and looks, from simple to more complex. Sometimes though you want something that looks a little extra special. One neckline that fits the bill is the scallop neckline, which describes a stitching pattern made up of a series of curves like that of a seashell. It can give a gown flare and pizazz but it's actually very easy to do. This design works best on dresses that are strapless so you have more space to create your scallops. I'm using a pattern made specifically for a scalloped design but as long as you have a facing or lining used to finish the neckline raw edge, you can recreate this yourself. Just use something round to create your scallop shaped stitching lines and you can get something similar. I just recommend at least doing the bodice in a muslin to test your design and make sure it's something that you're happy with.
