I would say that my favorite way to add volume to a skirt is through the addition of pleats. It's the perfect way to get a fitted waistline but the hemline will be full. Please note, there is no pattern included in this tutorial. Instead, I show you how to incorporate the pleat element in an already existing pattern. For my example, I demonstrate on the pattern created from our a-line/flared skirt tutorial, which was a variation created from the basic skirt pattern. The flared skirt already has a little bit of flare and the darts have been removed, so it's one less thing to worry about. The number of pleats you add is really up to you, just realize that the more pleats there are, the fuller the skirt will be. In addition to drafting a pleat into our pattern, there's also a short demonstration on how to sew your pleats once you cut it out of your fabric.

You’ll create the pleats as the waistline first, then do the hem and the can iron the pleats the full length of the skirt. A poly poplin is perfect if you want sharp looking pleats. 🙂
I am using a poly poplin. What is the best material for this style?
If you making the pleat all the way to the end of the skirt do you hem before or after.you iron in the pleats.
I am having problem viewing the premium videos. When I click on them, they just keep loading and loading. Please advise.

Hi There, thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I can see both the test video and the skirt video now. Maybe it had something to do with the laptop I was using. On Friday I was at work on my break and using my work laptop. Today (Sunday) I’m at home using my Macbook. Thanks you again, I really appreciate your help.
