After making our classic sock monkey last year, I knew I wanted to make another sock animal again. It really is a lot of fun and a lot easier than you think. Sure it may be a little time consuming with all the hand sewing, but the results are so worth it. I mean, look at this little guy. My sock dachshund is the cutest little guy on the block and though he would make an excellent gift, you will find him hard to giveaway.
As with our sock monkey, I love using the Original Rockford Red Heel socks, which seems to be the only socks that come with the classic red heel and gives my dog the vintage toy look that I love so much. You can, of course, use any kind of sock that you wish, but the sock seems to work best are regular socks, so not knee highs nor ankle socks. I used 1 pair of men's, size large and was able to get all the pieces I needed to make the dog. If you wish to order the Red Heel socks you can find them on the manufactures website Fox River here.
You can also download my pattern pieces I used to make the ears, tail, mouth, and front legs. The patterns are based on the size large socks, so depending on what kind of socks you use, you may have to do some alterations to the patterns to make it fit for you.
I never thought of making other kinds of animals from Rockford socks…how clever! Now my mind is spinning with other possibilities. Great video!
This is a wonderful idea. My son and his wife have a long haired dachshund that has brought them SO much comfort. He is graphic artist and an acomplished photographer so his “Furry Son” has had some great photos. He seems to enjoy the photo sessions.
I have never made a sock monkey but I sure would like to try this and gift it to him this Christmas.
Thanks for a great idea!

I made a sock monkey many years ago when my girls were toddlers. They loved and played with it often, I can still see it’s tail hanging over the edge of their toy box.
The sock monkey is now long gone but not the memory of it. I would love to win the socks and make a dog for one of my grandsons.
My mom collects sock monkeys, and I’d love to maker her a sock dog for Christmas!
Thank you so much, we are thrilled. I’m bursting…lol need to make a lot of cute things before he or she arrives. We find out the sex in A week or 2…I just want God to give us a healthy baby.
That’s so exciting! Congratulations on the coming baby. 🙂
I’ve never had a sock monkey before. I’ve made two, from crochet, for other people though. One was an all black ninja and the other was Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Very cute! I’d love to make one of these for my son for the holidays. Cheers!
This reminds me of the stuffed animals my Grandma Mac used to make for me. I treasured them (and played with them ) so much that I no longer have any of her cute creations. Even if I don’t win the give-a-way I will definitely be making one or lots of these as I now (at only 42) am going to be a Grandma for the first time in a few months. We’re super excited! What an awesome fun pattern! Thanks so much
This is great! I have to make some for grandkids! Thanks for the tutorial and chance to win the socks.
