If you want to get into embroidery or decorative hand sewing, learning how to do the stem stitch is a must. This stitch is great for doing outlines and for doing things like lettering. It's also a very easy stitch to learn and in this demonstration I show examples on a straight line, a circle and a "S" shape. To do this stitch well, it's important to have a mark on your fabric to follow and to stay consistent. Do that and your stitches will also look good. The stem stitch is the versatile, basic stitch you'll want to learn.
